Natural Remedies for Head Lice

What are Hair Lice?

Lice are tiny, wingless, parasitic insect that live amid human hair and feed on small amount of blood drawn from scalp. Hair lice are scientifically named Pediculus humanus capitis.

How Did I Get Hair Lice?

Lice reach your hair if you:

  • Come into close contact with an already infected person.
  • Wear infected clothing, such as hats, scarves, coats, sports uniforms, or hair ribbons
  • Use infested combs, brushes, or towels
  • Recline on a bed, couch, pillow, carpet, or stuffed animal that has been contaminated

Note: Lice do not jump or fly. Lice are not spread to humans from pets or other animals.

What’s the Solution for Hair Lice?

Normally, hair lice are not illness causing insects. However, they can cause itching which will lead to irritated skin. Hair Lice can be embarrassing and uncomfortable for many.

There are various treatment methods available for hair lice removal. The itchiness may not disappear immediately after treatment. Hence, you are not required to repeat the treatment. The treatments include:

  • Getting rid of hair lice with insecticides such as pyrethrin.
  • Applying hair oil regularly has worked for many.
  • Using combs specifically made to bring lice out of the hair.

You should consult your hair specialist if you couldn’t get rid of your hair lice by using all of the above mentioned treatment options.

Your hair specialist will then suggest you either an over-the-counter anti-lice product or he will give you a prescription drug.
